Samsung One UI 7.0 Update
Samsung One UI 7.0 Update

Samsung has introduced One UI 7.0 software with the Galaxy S25 series but not a single word has been stated regarding existing devices, which demonstrates sluggishness on the development side.

At Unpacked 2025, the Korean phone manufacturer showcased new One UI features and they are really interesting. The business has promoted this OS with the current flagship phones and revealed generative AI integration.

Features such as Now Bar and Now Brief are among the top stars of this OS upgrade. However, the presentation was solely about the new smartphones and inclusiveness exhibited for previously released flagships.

One UI 7.0 Beta

Samsung introduced the One UI 6.0 beta in August 2023 for the Galaxy S23 series and completed stable releases by the end of the year. The beta program is an indicator that the corporation has begun testing a new software upgrade for customers and it’s coming within a month or two.

However, 2024 wasn’t the same as the year previous, as Samsung postponed the One UI 7.0 testing until December, more than three months than the One UI 6.0 beta.

So, is this connected to the Android 15 release? It’s not, Google announced Android 14 and Android 15 in October 2023 and 2024 respectively.

That’s not all, Google also published Android 14 and Android 15’s initial developer preview build in February 2023 and 2024 respectively. It indicates nothing has changed from Google’s side in terms of development and final releases over the previous two years.

Overfocused on AI?

As of January 2025, only Galaxy S24 customers have One UI 7.0 beta access and a stable upgrade is still forthcoming. That stated, S23, S22, and S21 flagship users had no information about the One UI 7.0 rollout for their phones.

It takes us to the AI, this year’s Samsung Unpacked was all about Galaxy AI, its new avatar of generative AI capabilities and its advancement is rather astounding, to be honest.

Still, this achievement raises doubts about whether Samsung is especially focused on AI research for its upcoming flagship while postponing the creation of new software features for prior flagship phones.

This is only a question, that Samsung can answer, but a One UI 7.0 roadmap with expected distribution dates for previous Galaxy devices would have been considerably better than not providing anything at all.
