Prayagraj: The police officer in charge of security at the sizable religious event informed reporters today that thirty persons were killed in the stampede that broke out at the Maha Kumbh location in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, soon before daybreak.
Police official Vaibhav Krishna informed reporters that 25 dead had been identified and that 60 people had been hurt. Numerous people have been admitted to hospitals.
The casualty declaration followed hours of social media posts by Prayagraj locals and local reporters about the stampede's fatalities. However, the number of deceased did not match the accounts.
On the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, one of the most auspicious days, pilgrims fought for space to take a holy bath, which led to the pre-dawn rush in the Sangam region of the Maha Kumbh.
According to the police officer, a large number of individuals began smashing barriers before to the rush.

In order to investigate the causes of the stampede, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appointed a three-member judicial committee that will include retired IAS official VK Singh, former DG VK Gupta, and Justice Harsh Kumar. Additionally, he declared that the relatives of the deceased will each get an ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh.
A clearly moved Yogi Adityanath said, "It is necessary to get to the bottom of the entire scenario on how such a tragedy transpired," and added that the chief secretary and DGP will be visiting the Maha Kumbh on Thursday to conduct a thorough investigation into the occurrence.
Barricades installed for lane control in the mela and akhara regions, according to Mr. Krishna, came way due to the strain of the jostling.
A citizen of Karnataka named Sarojini told news agency PTI, "We arrived in two busses with a group of sixty people to swim in the Maha Kumbh. Our group consisted of nine individuals. We were stuck when there was sudden pressing in the throng. The crowd got out of control as several people collapsed.
When individuals in the huge throng began pressing, a mother at a nearby hospital who had a wounded kid stated there was nowhere to run. She told PTI that some of the individuals who shoved us were laughing as we pleaded with them to be gentle to the kids.
The situation is under control, according to Mr. Krishna, Maha Kumbh's Deputy Inspector in General (DIG).
Mahant Ravindra Puri, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, claimed that hundreds of saints and Naga sadhus would accompany him as he made his way to the Triveni Sangam for the amrit snan. "The Amrit snan is our destination... In order to let all of the devotees who have come here to take a holy bath, we shall swiftly leave the ghats."
Following amrit snan, Digambar Naga Baba Chidanand Puri of Panchayati Niranjani Akhara informed news agency ANI that following the occurrence, a limited number of Niranjani Akhara residents are coming to take the holy plunge.
